Welcome to the New York Management Law Blog

Management Law

As of April 20, 2017, I have launched my own law firm, Horton Law PLLC, based in Orchard Park, New York. My practice focuses on what has often been referred to as management-side labor & employment law. I am also a school attorney, advising school district administrators on certain education law topics. I only represent business organizations, public and private. I do not represent employees, students, or other individuals on personal matters. Thus, I’m referring to Horton Law PLLC as a “Management Law” firm.

My clients all operate to some degree in New York State. To assist them and other businesses operating in New York, I have created this New York Management Law Blog. I will write on both recurring labor, employment, and school matters (e.g., can I fire this employee?) and emerging topics (e.g., does New York’s Paid Family Leave Law apply to public school districts?). If you have suggestions for topics you’d like to see addressed here, please let me know.

Lawyer’s Disclaimer

Although I will often address legal topics, nothing that I write in the blog can be considered legal advice. I am writing for a broad audience that includes people I have never met. What I say here may depend on facts and circumstances, details of law, jurisdiction, etc., that I’m not addressing. In other words, what I write may be helpful to many, but not necessarily to you. Or, though helpful, the information may be incomplete for your situation.

So: If you want legal advice, retain an attorney. If you would like to retain me, call (716) 508-7748 or email me.

Do not assume that any communication with me will be protected by the attorney-client privilege or will necessarily have to be kept confidential unless and until we sign a formal engagement agreement. It is probably best that you first contact me without including any confidential information about your situation. If time is of the essence, let me know that, and I will do my best to get back to you quickly. But, again, do not consider me your lawyer unless you have that confirmed in writing from me.

There’s Also a Newsletter!
